@TheIWSG #IWSG #WritingCommunity #WriterSupport #Writing

Join Alex J. Cavanaugh and a multitude of writer's in this monthly hop to help support one another!

Purpose: To share and encourage. Writers can express doubts and concerns without fear of appearing foolish or weak. Those who have been through the fire can offer assistance and guidance. It’s a safe haven for insecure writers of all kinds!

The first Wednesday of every month is officially Insecure Writer’s Support Group day. Post your thoughts on your own blog. Talk about your doubts and the fears you have conquered. Discuss your struggles and triumphs. Offer a word of encouragement for others who are struggling. Visit others in the group and connect with your fellow writer - aim for a dozen new people each time - and return comments. This group is all about connecting!

Let’s rock the neurotic writing world!

Our Twitter handle is @TheIWSG and hashtag is #IWSG.

Alex's awesome co-hosts are PK Hrezo, Pat Garcia, SE White, Lisa Buie Collard, and Diane Burton!

April 7th's question, if you'd like to answer it, is:  Are you a risk-taker when writing? Do you try something radically different in style/POV/etc. or add controversial topics to your work?

I don't think I am a risk-taker nor have I tried anything radically different. Although, some readers have taken offense to my Christian based series. Wickedly It Begins. Wickedly They Come. Wickedly They Dream. Some reviewers write, It was a good story, but they didn't care for the religious aspects. I had one reviewer that said, "I'm an atheist, and the story had too much Christianity in it." LOL. On Amazon it clearly states these books are Christian/Spiritual/Religious Fantasy. Religion can be quite controversial.

Do you believe in Writer's Block? Because that's where I am right now. I told myself, I just need a break. Forget about writing for a while. What do you do for Writer's Block?

  1. I'm sorry you're going through writer's block. I try to read and watch TV for inspiration. And sometimes I give myself permission to just write 250 words just to get some words on the page. I usually end up writing for longer. Maybe doing other things you enjoy for a bit will help.

  2. Too funny. What did that reviewer expect reading a book with obvious Christian aspects? I say good for you for adding that.

  3. I'm here to commiserate with you, Cathrina! We need to sit across a table from each other and chat about this writer's block thing.

  4. I have been motivated only by my faith to write and yet it petrifies me because I fear getting attacked from several sides. I imagine I will get it from those who don't like anything religious and also from people of every theological angle I might not line up with exactly to their liking.

I know my fear shows through the fact I've got 27 website pages written but only 3 or 4 visible. The rest I've buried after having them up for a while from fear of what people will think. I have 3 blog posts showing but over 80 I've buried because I am so uncertain of what I've written.

  5. Sadly, Christianity will soon be the controversial topic no one wants to see or hear. Keep to your values. DLP will keep its values, too.

  6. What Alex said.😂😂😂 And also, I second Diane. Stick to your beliefs and stay strong. Those of faith must stay connected. (I’m currently working on a faith-based MG novel. With the direction this world is headed, the story might never get out there. But it’s a story I need to write, so maybe that’s my risk.)

  7. Writer's block?
Try something different, like a diary entry of one of your characters, or stream-of-consciousness writing, or a fun poem.
Buy some new accessories (maybe a bullet journal or colorful post-its)
Have a little bit of writing-related fun where you give your inner writer a little TLC such as, doodling or writing some bad poetry. Alleviate the pressure from yourself by not expecting the writing to become “a thing.”
    Good luck!

  8. You can't please everyone all the time. Some people don't read disclaimers or advisories. Go figure. Writers' block. The pandemic made me lose my focus. Not blocked exactly but writing took too much energy. From what I've read from other writers, I'm not alone. Good luck with working through it or just giving yourself permission to unwind and step back. For a while.
