#AtoZ - Letter C #celebratethesmallthings

CONVOY
I was going to post The Christmas Shoes, but that's a sad one. So I went with this good 'ole 1978 Film with a silly theme song that makes me giggle.

CW McCall's ode to truckers and CB radios, released in 1975, struck a chord with a nation that was, for a short time, in the throes of a fascination with big-rig culture. The song was kind of a rap number, a narrative of CB radio conversations between Rubber Duck, Pig Pen and Sod Buster as they drive across the nation during a fictitious trucker rebellion. McCall recorded a new version of the song for the film, which starred Kris Kristofferson, Ali McGraw and Ernest Borgnine.

I did see this film many moons ago, and I believe, I liked it!!! And guess what? I recently heard the song played on the radio.

  3. Hi,

Can't remember watching Convoy, but Born Free was one of the first films I watched in a theatre. Nice to connect. Happy Easter.

  9. This is a film my husband likes. He's a big fan of CB and Ham radio and we've got it in our collection alongside the Smokey and the Bandit films. I wind him up whenever he watches it but it's quite good really.

    Happy Easter. :-)

  11. Oh, yes, I remember seeing Convoy and god knows I heard the song cazillion times. :-) It was very popular movie theme for awhile. I'll even admit I laughed my way through Smokey and the Bandit films and I loved Jackie Gleason being in there too.

I remember the song but never saw this movie. CB radios were all the rage then. Happy Easter to you and yours!

  14. We sang that song for a Fall choir concert in 9th grade - my choir teacher used it and the "Do, Re, Mi" song from Sound of Music to teach us how to "speak-sing" and enunciate our words. :)
    Happy Easter! He is Risen!

  19. I do remember this movie and how could you forget the song! Well I did forget the entire song except for the one part - the low baritone voice saying, "Convoy..." I thought it was a Burt Reynolds movie, but he did the Smokey and the Bandits. There was a big - big rig - movement then :)
