Welcome Author Nana Prah!
A Fellow Author, Friend, and Review Partner!
Today we get a peek into Nana's second Book. Her first release Love Through Time is a sweet romance. And Nana turns up the heat with Midwife to Destiny!

Blurb:
Ghanaian nurse Aurora ‘Ora’ Aikins never expected to find the love of her life while on vacation in South Africa. Engaged to another and believing that love has no place in her life, she returns to Ghana, and puts duty and honor first.

Three years later, Dr. Jason Lartey still can’t get Ora out of his mind or his heart. After learning she never married, he takes a risk and moves to Ghana hoping to rekindle what they started. His sudden appearance in Ora’s Emergency Department sends sparks flying all over again.

They’re in the same country, working in the same hospital, and together but distance creeps between them. Can they make their destined love one for the ages?

Enjoy the following excerpt from Midwife to Destiny:

Ora focused on putting one foot in front of the other as if she were a one-year-old learning how to walk. After turning the corner and seeing the back of his head, she froze. She would know that head anywhere. He’d grown his hair out a little, but his adorable, Will Smith ears gave him away. Initiating the process of pivoting and sprinting out of the ED unnoticed sprang to mind when he turned around and his gaze caught hers.

The air became charged with tension and neither of them moved. Her heart threatened to pop out of her chest with the force of each beat. The nurses stood between them, looking back and forth as if they watched a tennis match. They didn’t bother to hide their expressions of curiosity.

5 tips on writing a book review

Since Cathrina and I are review partners, I thought I’d give a few tips on how to write a book review. Remember that I’m not a hard core reviewer. I do it to share my enjoyment all of the wonderful books I’ve read.

I gave a copy of my first novel, Love Through Time, to a friend. When she finished she told me how much she enjoyed it. When I asked her to write a review she reacted as if I requested that she walk blindfolded across a bridge with no guardrails.

Writing reviews is not hard. I speak for myself when I say  I don’t need something extravagant after you have read my book, I’d like the person to share with others what they liked or didn’t like about it. That’s all.

This post is for all of the people who are afraid of writing a review for fear of… Well I have no idea what you’re afraid of, but I’ll let you know that it will make a writer very happy to read what you thought about her or his book. Here are some basic guidelines to follow.

1. Keep it simple
2. Be honest
3. Write what you liked about the book
4. Mention something that you didn’t care for, but in a positive manner (if there was anything)
5. Have fun

If a book is rubbish, something I would give less than a 3 out of 5 rating, or I couldn’t finish it, then I don’t review it. I have no desire to decrease an author’s status or  confidence. That’s never necessary.

With that said, my new romance Midwife To Destiny is out. Pick yourself up a copy and then apply my five tips by writing a review, I will be ever so grateful.

  2. Love the tips, Nana. I wish we could adequately emphasize how much a review means to us, eh? I have the same reaction from several people, but I find when I request directly that they write me a review after raving, they always do. Here's to wonderful friends and kind reviewers!

  3. Great tips. I am in awe of the amount of reading you do, Nana. I have to set some targets this year. I often leave reviews for books I enjoyed. I am yet to give a bad review, but I do think some books need to get the bad reviews as a way to ensuring readers know what they are getting themselves into and for authors to fix some basic issues with their craft. If I ever go ahead and give a bad review, it would not be with the intention to put the author down, but if an author puts a book out there that is full of typos I think the author should be made aware that this is not acceptable to readers :-)

    1. Thanks, Empi. I think if you'd like to give someone a bad review, it would be better if you got in contact with them directly and told them. I'd appreciate it more than a public flogging.

  5. Great, simple tips - thank you!! And I agree - if I don't like a book, I don't review it. There's no need to go out of my way to be negative.

  6. Good tips! I think reviews, like with anything, get easier with practice. But you have to start in order to practice, right?

And with regards to like/dislike, I've kept the opinion of: If I don't like it, I'll tell the author. If I like it, I'll tell the world.

    1. You're right, Heather. If you think about complicating the review, you won't write it.
