Mother's Day Memories

Over the years I've learned valuable lessons about celebrating Mother's Day.

Mornings were the best part of the whole day. I was ordered to stay in bed while my husband and the little ones made me breakfast, and then five children jumped onto the bed (or baby was carried in daddy's arms) with their homemade cards and presents. Five cherubs talked animatedly while I picked at pancakes, eggs, toast, and sausages. (way too much food, though, disappointment showered their faces if I didn't eat it all). Those are the splendid memories I wish to hold onto.

After the remarkable morning, the rest of the day was hectic and full of mayhem. Mother's Day was a blur of struggling to get the kids dressed in their Sunday best, keeping them clean and presentable. Then I endeavored to slap on make-up and climb into my clothes with five children dangling off my legs. I remember the frustration, the chaos------------and now I want it all back.

We then followed the extended family to a destination for a Mother's Day Brunch or whatnot with hundreds of other families with children. Talk about chaotic!!

Well, needless to say, I now opt to celebrate Mother's Day with a homemade cookout in the peaceful serenity of our backyard with family and friends. Ahhh...blissful!

Cherished Memories!!

  9. WOW 5 kids! I can't imagine the chaos and noise. I like the home celebrations also. Hubby made a nice meal the nice before, followed by a lovely brunch the next morning. Got a call from DD who's 500 miles away. Life is good.
