I'm at a stage in my life where the days pass at lightning speed. There's so much to do and so little time to get it all accomplished.
As for my writing, I finally had my manuscript (that's been stewing on the back burner for like forever) professionally edited. Now, it's the long haul of rereading, fine tuning, and attempting to find those nasty typos from haunting my book.
It's been 12 years since I published my first book, and I still feel incompetent and unsure of my words and my stories. It's always a mental struggle when I put my book babies out into the world, and wait on pins and needles to get feedback, which is usually good, bad, and meh....Then~ that time spent, those endless hours of mind boggling writing takes on a whole new meaning.
I've somehow lost a bit of that perseverance, that drive to get it done.
I wonder if all writer's suffer from doubt and insecurities like I do? Do you?
Glad your next book is in the final stretch. I've kind of lost that drive as well. So many other things in life to do now.
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year, Alex.
DeleteWell, as for the question about doubt and insecurities... we ARE the Insecure Writers Support Group! And we all have ups and downs. I'm really feeling the winter this year, and that seeps into my confidence and joy as a writer.
ReplyDeleteI still get insecure about my writing...depends on the day. But I think that is a sign that we care about the product we put out. That's a good thing, so long as we don't let our doubts paralyze us a keep us from writing.
ReplyDeleteI still have the drive to publish more books, but I've lost the fire to fit writing where ever I can. I tend to put it off until I have a long stretch of time to draft. I need to get motivated again.
I'm never sure that what I write is worthwhile. I always need shoring up.

Whenever I release a book that's something different than what I've done previously, it's aways a bit of a nail biter to see how it's received. Mostly, I subscribe to the 'you can't please everyone' philosophy, but the negative comments still bother me if I focus on them too much. Trying to focus on comments by readers who like your work helps.
ReplyDeleteEditing/revising is a lot of work and can be exhausting. Take your time and make it a story you enjoy. That's really all you can do.
