Question: Have you ever read a line in a novel or a clever plot twist that caused you to have author envy?

To be truthful ~~ All the time, but not in a mean way. I so admire their works and their words. Wonderful authors that have written great books with unimaginable plot twists. I hope that while reading these amazing books, I have learned something that might help me with my own writing.

  1. That's how we have to read - watchful for what really works and adapt it to our own style.

  2. I appreciate, but don't really envy, authors who write amazing plot twists. Like Diane, I try to learn from what I read. I wish I could remember everything I read that works well.

  3. Of course it's frustrating when you can't figure out how they did it!

  4. I love learning from other authors, and I often wonder if they realize themselves (when they write wonderfully) that they've done so. Oh, and I enjoy the memes. A writing wall should be plastered with things like that!

  5. I too feel I can learn from all the authors who surprise readers with unexpected plot twists.

  6. Reading is the best writing course an author can take.

  7. Ha! That picture about reading past bedtime... I ruined my eyesight because I'd sneak out of bed after getting tucked in and settle on the floor next to the itty bitty night light to read. I use it as a word of warning to my kids to make sure they use plenty of good light for their reading activities.

  9. Love your memes--esp. getting in trouble for reading after bedtime. I got into trouble for reading during math class. LOL I still read late into the night.

  10. I remember as a kid reading with a flashlight with the covers over me. I'm sure my parents didn't know I was staying up late to read! ha Great images.

  11. The J.K. Rowling quote is so true in many ways! You can make just about anything with words at least as far as story goes.
