WRITERLY WOES & TRIUMPHS

After writing my first book, I began to read and learn everything I could about publishing. I knew nodda! I'm still learning. What route to take? What's the best plan for me? Traditional versus Indie, and so on....That's another Post!
After years of heartbreaking rejections from agents, and major rewrites and revisions, I was ready to throw in the towel. I decided to try the Independent Small Publishers.
**Success**
Years later and after having my third book published, why do I still feel like a newbie?

Even now, it's disheartening to received those dreaded rejection letters on a new ms. I decided to try the traditional route again. Why do this to myself?

I'm assuming all writer's feel the same triumphant feeling when you receive the email that says, "I loved your submission!" or "Please send me the full in a word document."

How do you express yourself when you read or hear good writerly news?
*Happy Dance*
*Squeeeee*
*Fist Pump*
I'm Truly Blessed to be where I am! And I can't say enough to writers just starting out: Read, Read, Read, and Perseverance, Perseverance, Perseverance!
And a Little Luck!!!

Four books in, I still feel like a novice, so welcome to the club.

  2. I think it's the thought of 'what if' that pushes us to keep going, even when we keep getting hit w/rejections. 'What if' the next agent I query is the one? That sort of thing. I'm just starting to submit to a few small publishers, so I've got my fingers crossed! =) And congrats on three published books!

  3. Honestly, I don't know what keeps people going. It's a heartbreaking business. I go on partly because I'm a determined cuss and partly because I have a story I really want to tell. I've set a time limit on it though. Ten years, and I've already used up five. Good luck with your querying. :)

  4. Oh, rejection sucks. It's a definite mood-killer. Got my last rejection on Thanksgiving day. Who sends out rejections on a holiday?!? Anyway, I don't know why we persist except that we must. :)

    1. What a crappy thing for any person to do!! Why send a rejection on Thanksgiving? You mean they couldn't wait one day.

  5. Rejections are never easy to deal with, for sure. (I know from personal experience, haha.) Glad to see you keep persevering! :)

  6. I'm in the happy dance bunch, but I must say I haven't tried the traditional or small press route. My biggest thrills come when people ask me to participate.

I'm happy for your triumphs! Very uplifting post. Great job!

  8. Yes, a happy dance is ALWAYS appropriate!! I feel like a newbie, too, even tho I've been writing for years. I wonder if that ever goes away??
