CELEBRATE & HOLIDAY FOOD DRIVE #feedthehungryeh
What I can't fathom in today's society, especially in our own country, the number of people that go hungry! I see overloaded plates in restaurants with food half eaten. I picture good food being tossed in the garbage. Walking through the grocery stores with row upon rows of vegetables, fruits, meats, all kinds of food and drinks galore, and yet people go hungry!
This Christmas either visit and/or donate your time and money to your local food bank. Help out a citizen that is ill-equipped to take care of his/her children. We need to be a country of nourished children and families!
In my hometown it's simple to donate. Go to the local supermarket and you can purchase a bag of groceries that will be donated to the Food Banks in the area. Tops and Wegmans are the major supermarkets around Buffalo.
I normally receive an envelope in the mail to make a monthly donation to the Buffalo City Mission where they feed hundreds of people. It's so easy you don't even have to leave the comfort of your home.
Or you can go to St. Luke's on Sycamore and Walden in Buffalo and volunteer to package and bag groceries for the needy.

Thank You to M.J. Joachim for this HOLIDAY FOOD DRIVE
Also thanks to VikLit for Celebrate the Small Things
You make some very good points here, Cathrina. There is an awful lot of wasted food, so it's hard to imagine anyone going hungry in America. And yet, there are so many without food. Thank you for taking part in this very important event :)
ReplyDeleteThanks, for your inspiration, MJ.
DeleteThis is a great reminder that not everyone goes to bed with a full tummy. Thanks for highlighting this issue!
ReplyDeleteIts so true!
DeleteWe always donate through our church.
ReplyDeleteWonderful, Alex!
DeleteI usually shop at Publix and they add on a few bucks to every purchase for different causes. That's one thing I like about them--they'll even give you a free reusable shopping bag if you donate and if everyone adds just a dollar or two, I can't imagine the money they collect, especially the week of Thanksgiving!
ReplyDeleteOH--and I forgot to mention I tagged you in my blog today. No pressure--I just like to highlight bloggers in the hopes people will click over and meet you!
DeleteWhy thank you Stephanie!!!
DeleteI donate food every week when I get my groceries. It's so sad to think of anyone having to go hungry.
ReplyDeleteWonderful!
DeleteWhat a wonderful thing to be thankful for. I too hate seeing waste and this time of year there seems to be even more around.
ReplyDeleteYes, there is.
DeleteIt's crazy the amount of food that gets wasted. You've provided a very nice resource for people in your area to help their neighbors out. :)
ReplyDeleteIt's so easy to help.
DeleteVery well said. Let's reduce food waste and help others. Too many people go hungry in our country of plenty.
ReplyDeleteI donate to food banks all year around. Can't believe the # of folks in glam Miami who go hungry. Enjoy the weekend.
ReplyDeleteWonderful Marilyn!
DeleteThanks for bringing awareness to the need for food donations. So easy to drop off food or money to the local food pantry, not only now, but all through the year. I posted the photo to FB and G+
ReplyDeleteYes, it's so easy1
DeleteA wonderful idea, Cathy. So much good to do. So much time.
ReplyDeleteThanks Nana.
DeleteI'm doing my community's "Room at the Inn" project - cooking on Thursdays, December through March. It's a service for homeless and it's very humbling. I think anything we can do is appreciated. It's a nice way of sharing love.
ReplyDeleteI'm off this blog hop for awhile - may rejoin later!
Very best wishes for a successful Holiday Food Drive, Kate! I know they'll appreciate your participation.
Hi Cathrina - you've highlighted this so well ... we have 'so much', we see so much waste - and yet many poor and desperate people go hungry. I'm sure in Buffalo there will be many extra who need support this year too after your snows ...
ReplyDeleteCheers and so pleased you're helping so many others .. Hilary
So important to bring to everyone's attention. Have a lovely weekend.
ReplyDeleteDonating is so important, and super easy since there are drop-off places and we all have stocked pantries we can share with others.
ReplyDeleteIt is a crime that anyone should go hungry in the USA, the bread basket of the world. Thanks for bringing this up, particularly at this time.
ReplyDeleteFar too much food goes to waste in this country, and it's sad to see anyone who doesn't have enough to eat. Thanks for bringing attention to this important issue!
ReplyDeleteIt's definitely sad to think that there are still people out there who go hungry. Love your ideas on how to help!
ReplyDeleteIt really is unbelievable how much food goes to waste...so sad. Thanks for the friendly reminder post today. We all could give, at least, a little bit to those less fortunate.
ReplyDeleteWe have a Second Harvest Food Bank here and it's a wonderful way to help people and stop some of the wastes. Great idea to have this kind of reminder.
