CELEBRATE THE SMALL THINGS

I totally forgot to Celebrate the Small Things last Friday. I think my brain was still on vacation.

This week I'm celebrating a wonderful candlelit night with long-time friends. Sitting outside on a balmy summers night with candle's flickering while we laughed and chatted made me happy.

Yesterday on FB-IWSG, Lynda Young asked: "Good, better, best, never let it rest, until your good is better, until your better's best." John White (Pulitzer Prizewinning photojournalist)

When do you know you've reached "best"?

And that's my problem, I never seem to reach my "best." I edit and edit, and still choke on problematic grammar and whatnot. I have to say enough is enough.

So with that said, I'm Celebrating enough is enough and I'm moving on...
After months of editing my now completed ms, (hope) I finally opened my wip where the characters have been patiently waiting for me. I'm a slow writer, though, happy to say I've added 7k this week.

Thanks to Vikki at Scribblings of an Aspiring Author for this brain child. Hop over and add your name to the celebration here

What are you Celebrating?

  2. Seven thousand words in one week is fast for me, so don't feel bad.
Not sure when I hit my best. I guess when I hit the point of nitpicking.

  5. The most we can do is try. I've still to find perfection in anything I do, but I love reaching for it.

    1. I don't ever expect to reach perfection, and it's a battling trying.

  6. Sounds like a lovely evening was had. I know what you mean with the editing, it can be hard to let go and move on, I've had to do that recently and it wasn't easy! Congrats on that 7k though, that's a great achievement.

  8. I usually know when I hit my best, when everything about a story seems to work. Problem is it takes me an enormous amount of time to get it just right. So hang on; you'll reach your best eventually.

  11. I don't think best can ever really be met, there's nearly always some way of improving everything. Well, that's my excuse for not ever getting near best LOL x

  14. I'm a slow writer, too. But ever since 2013 rolled into 2014, distractions keep happening and my energy is lower than normal, too.

  16. I just finished a wonderful book and thought, "Oh my goodness. I am NEVER going to be able to write anything like that." And then I thought, "What can I take away from this?" So, I opened it for another read, this time writing down what I liked best as I came to it. Last night, my brain whirred while I wanted to sleep. I kept turning on the light and writing down in my notebook new and better description for my characters. Sometimes we just need a spark from someone else to set our own imagination on fire. Hang in there!

  17. Congrats on the 7K words! That's more than I write at a time. I always have a hard time saying enough is enough, but I just have to do it and call it done. Here's to moving on! Have a great weekend and hope you have more wonderful times with your friends!

  18. Good job writing 7000 words! If I get 2000 in a week it's cause for celebration. Did you do Camp Nanowrimo to help boost your word count?
