  1. I read it in high school. Movie was in black and white, but I don't remember the year.

  2. I saw the movie when I took a films class in high school. It's so hard to imagine now but it was shown on a projector with a film reel. That makes me feel 105 years old LOL.

  3. You are killing me with all of these classics. Kind of feeling like a literary ignoramus. I'm sure there will be one book where I'll raise my hand in the air and yell that I've read it.

  4. I haven't read this book. I think it was probably "too tame" or "boring" when I was younger. Now I think I would find it very interesting. Funny how our tastes change as time passes. I didn't see the movie, either, so I have no idea.

Ellen Burstyn? Really. I like her a lot. She has been in so many great films and one TV show I really liked, though that was quite a few years ago now. She usually plays a likable character. That was a real deviation for her.

  7. My guess would be in the late 1940s. 1947, if I had to choose a year. 1951 at the latest.

We had the book assigned for English in high school.

  12. It's on my short list of classics. I can't wait to get to it, but I have to finish 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea and Gone with the Wind first. I didn't realize there was a movie, but I'm going to have to check it out.

  13. I've read the book a couple of times. Sadly, many people resent it since it is part of the forced school reading regimen. Never seen the movie, though.

  14. The book published in 1939 and the movie in 1940. I knew people whose family came to California because of the dust bowl and struggled to make a living. Steinbeck was an excellent writer.
The movie received a number of nominations for the Oscars.
