#IWSG



Join Alex J. Cavanaugh and a multitude of writer's in this monthly hop to help support one another!

Purpose: To share and encourage. Writers can express doubts and concerns without fear of appearing foolish or weak. Those who have been through the fire can offer assistance and guidance. It’s a safe haven for insecure writers of all kinds!

 As you look back on 2017, with all its successes/failures, if you could backtrack, what would you do differently?



Truth be told I can't think of anything I'd do differently as far as my writing is concerned. I have been learning that I can't pay for promotional ads on all my books or else I'll go broke. What I have been doing differently is picking one or possibly two books to promote each month. And I started a Newsletter which I hope will help get the word out. The only problem with the Newsletter is the monthly cost of it. There doesn't seem to be an economical solution to the marketing plan.

What would you do differently?

  1. It's always good not to have regrets and feel like we have learned and done what we could in the past year. Thanks for sharing what you learned. That's good to limit how much we spend promoting our books.

  2. Yeah, the expense involved in marketing seems inevitable. I wish someone could tell us all a free way to do it!!

  4. The cost of marketing can be a hindrance, especially if you aren't making back what you put in. Maybe more focused marketing will work better. I hope. Merry Christmas!

  6. I’m learning that same lesson where marketing is concerned. It’s really tough to learn all the ins and outs and what will work when the landscape is constantly changing.

  15. I tried paid for marketing when I published my first short story collection - I don’t think it made any difference. Sadly, I think a lot of it comes down to luck.
