#CTST

The weeks seem to be flying faster than normal. It's that time again to
Celebrate the Small Things
Hop over to Lexa Cain's and join in this fun weekly Celebration. Lexa's wonderful co-hosts are:
L.G. Keltner @ Writing Off The Edge
Tonja Drecker @ Kidbits Blog

Since I'm watching my grand babies 3 days a week, 10 hours a day, I hardly find time to hop around to everyones blogs. But I will try, and I apologize in advance.

I had some negative feed back on the first chapter of my new ms from a beta. She didn't sugar coat her words. I admit, I was weepy. Thoughts of~ I suck as a writer swept around my head like a tornado. (that'd be a good post for the IWSG)

So I reworked it a tad, and had 3 more betas read it, and they came back with positive feedback. Feeling better...I guess.

Looking outside into the sunshine helps very much. To clear my cobwebs I took Murphy for a walk in the woods. Well, I walked, he ran...

He happened upon the only mudhole!!! And came home a muddy mess. But it sure was fun!!!

Have a pleasant Weekend!

  1. Glad you were able to fix that first chapter.
He found a mud hole - but of course! That's what dogs do.

  2. Harsh feedback is always hard to take, but if you end up with better words on the page afterwards, it's worth those hours of feeling like crap.

  3. Aww how cute. Yeah, that negative feedback can suck. Often I find it's best to set it aside, come back to it, and tackle it a little at a time. Later you almost always look back and realize that the feedback was correct, but it takes a little time and distance from it.

  4. Your outdoors photos are just gorgeous:) Don't feel bad... opening chps are always hard to get right and I know I always rewrite my several times before I get it closer to being right:)

  5. Dogs will always find the only mudhole or sand pit there. I have CPs who're diplomatic but thorough. But even with blunt criticism, I only change things if several CPs/betas have the same criticism. I'm democratic - majority rules! Otherwise, if it's only 1 of them, I ignore it unless it resonates with me. Glad you're feeling better with the newer crits. Have a lovely weekend!

  6. Oh, ack, so sorry about the negative feedback! The unapologetically blunt kind never fail to be painful. And I know what you mean about being behind on the blogosphere. I'm nowhere near as busy as you, and it's still difficult for me to find time to comment!

  7. I'm betting you wouldn't trade the time with those kids for anything in the world. Enjoy.
Sorry about the beta feedback, but at least she says what she thinks, and I'm sure that chapter rocks now.

  8. Watching your grandbabies has to be so much fun. Sorry about the negative feedback. That's always painful to hear. I know it's hard, but I hope you can see it for what it is and not take it personally. Walking in the woods is a wonderful way to clear your head. I had to laugh at Murphy finding the mudhole. Don't they always?
