INSECURE WRITER'S SUPPORT GROUP

My personal life this month is truly blessed with the birth of my first grandson!

However, this month my life as a writer really sucks. I'm depressed and want to throw in the towel so to say. I somehow feel that God is slamming the door in my face telling me it's time to move on.

Writing is hard work as we all know. Lonely work. Writing between you and your computer. And if you're like me, I'm a slow writer and need time to concentrate in quiet. This leaves out communication with family and friends.

I feel like I'm whining, and hope the next IWSG post will be better. Everyone have a good month!!

  1. It is okay to whine to people that understand. I know how you feel. I am right there with you today, but do not give up. You have too much potential. Congratulations with your grandson. That is a wonderful addition to the family.

  2. I'm so happy for you and your family with the new addition! Enjoy your beautiful grandson. :)

I can relate to your insecurities this month as I've been feeling the same way as far as writing more. I can't seem to get a handle on the WIP that feels like it will never be finished. But I've felt more inspired lately so I'm taking May off from blogging to go with that feeling.

I hope you never throw in the towel - I've enjoyed your books so much! Give yourself time and focus on your family now - the writing will come back.

  4. Sounds like you need some interaction with the rest of the world. I don't know what that means for you... but maybe trying something new. Or going on vacation. Or joining a book club. Or any sort of club that allows you to try something new and different. It will help with the loneliness and give you some story ideas....:D

  5. Congrats on the grandchild!

I don;'t know the nature of the slammed door, but if you're querying, that's a very common thing. It probably isn't God. Just some overworked, narrow-minded, sparsely budgeted publisher.

In any case, take time off and enjoy that baby. That always makes a person feel better. :)

IWSG #224 until Alex culls the list again.

  6. That first grandchild must be exactly what you need to take your mind off those insecurities. You're not alone in all of those feelings, of course, but know that.

  7. Congratulations on your first grandson! How exciting. The insecurities will pass, they always do and you'll be back at writing in no time :)

  8. Grats on your grandson! And don't throw in the towel yet. Maybe just wave it around a bit.

    1. I like that waving around a bit remark. It'd made me giggle.

If you have a gift of writing, then it's not God trying to derail you...

    1. Grandma, taking a while to get used to that. GREAT Word, thanks Alex!

  10. It is tough to sit at the computer, especially during the summertime, when there are so many exciting things going on! Perhaps just setting aside a half an hour or hour a day? I know that can be tough at times, though! There's nothing wrong with taking a break for a while.

  12. Don't give up but whine away. That's what we're here for!

    Congratulations, Grandma! :D

  13. That is what's so great about IWSG. You can whine is you want. Sometimes we just need to. Cathrina, I wrote for 25 years before I was published. Trust that it will happen.

  14. Congratulations! A grandson is a gift, Cathrina.
Sometimes I feel as if I'm being left behind because most other writers seem to have it all figured out and continue to produce novel after novel, when I can hardly find the time to write a sentence. I'm a slow writer, and have recently felt like giving up.
What I believe we both need is at least one month away from blogging. It's very time-consuming, and writing is hard enough without the distractions.
Don't worry, I'm certain you'll find your way back.

    1. I definitely need to concentrate on my writing and take my own advice to other bloggers and write once or twice a week. Thanks Fanny.
