@TheIWSG #IWSG #WritersSupportGroup #WritingCommunity

Join Alex J. Cavanaugh and a multitude of writer's in this monthly hop to help support one another!

Purpose: To share and encourage. Writers can express doubts and concerns without fear of appearing foolish or weak. Those who have been through the fire can offer assistance and guidance. It’s a safe haven for insecure writers of all kinds!

The first Wednesday of every month is officially Insecure Writer’s Support Group day. Post your thoughts on your own blog. Talk about your doubts and the fears you have conquered. Discuss your struggles and triumphs. Offer a word of encouragement for others who are struggling. Visit others in the group and connect with your fellow writer - aim for a dozen new people each time - and return comments. This group is all about connecting!

Let’s rock the neurotic writing world!

Our Twitter handle is @TheIWSG and hashtag is #IWSG

I don't have any writing craft books that I refer to. Although, my daughter has many because she is an English Creative Writing Teacher. We discuss writing on occasion which is nice. I gave my daughter's the first 3 chapters of my newest manuscript, asking for their input. Both of them gave me good advice.

I had to chuckle when I disagreed with something, and one of them said, "Well, I read extensively and....blah, blah, blah...

Not to sound uppity, I returned, "I kind of read a lot too." Though, I didn't mention that I had also published 9 books, which they are well aware of.

Everyday, for me, as a writer, I learn something new...

On a side note: I am re-launching Don't Forget To Breathe on September 1st. If anyone is interested in hosting me on their blog, please comment below or send me an email at cathrinaconstantine@gmail.com.

  1. That's great that both your daughters read your writing sometimes and give you feedback.

  2. Feedback can be so difficult! On both the sender and the receiver :)

I would normally have helped out with your booklaunch, but checking the blurb, it's something I'm currently off reading (see last month's IWSG). So far this new strategy is working for me, so I'll keep it going for a while. I hope it goes well, anyway.

And thanks for co-hosting this month!

  3. Nice to have family members help you.
I can host you in September.
    Thanks for co-hosting today!

  4. I love how supportive your family is. I have two middle school kids and they love to help me brainstorm :)

  5. I get my sister to read my manuscripts, which is helpful. I have read craft books but learnt more from writing workshops that were run by authors.
I'm happy to help out with hosting you on my blog, if you like.

  6. Good daughters! My son is too young to read what I write, maybe one day!

  7. LOL! I refer to the Chicago Manual of Style the most.

  8. My adult daughter is an author too so we help each other a lot! Thanks for hosting!

  9. Thanks for co-hosting this month. It's nice that you have family to help you out. I started writing about 10 years ago and had to wait that long for my niece to get old enough for her to help me out and me to help her out. It's nice.

  11. Hi Cathrina, good luck for relaunching your book. Wishing you loads of success.

  12. Hi,
I so agree with the quote. I find that so in my own life. We writers really do see things differently because we experience life differently.
    Thank you also for co-hosting.

  13. You're always welcome to stop by my blog, Cathrina. I'd love for you to post about your re-publishing experience--the how's and why's. I'm sure my readers would be interested. Thanks for co-hosting today!

  16. Thanks for co-hosting! I had to laugh because your exchange sounds like one I had over a decade ago where the person gave me no helpful feedback and just kept going on about how well-read they were. I think your daughter probably went about it better than the exchange I had, though.

    Thanks for co-hosting!

    1. Guess it wasn't over a decade ago. Man, I can't do math!

  21. I love your quote in the phoenix image. It's definitely true - everything I see and hear and experience can become a source for a new story. Who said that?

  22. If you find the right "readers" they can really help you hone in on one particular genre... but another writer can help you zoom out and focus on writing (whether or not they're a fan of what you're working on.) Happy IWSG day.

  23. Sounds like creative writing is in the family genes. Nice you can ask your daughters for feedback...and you can accept their suggestions with a smile. Thanks for co-hosting the August IWSG blog hop.

  26. So cool that your daughters have basically followed in your footsteps with the love of reading/writing ;)

  27. Funny. The things people say, and the things we don't... LOL
    Thanks for co-hosting.

  28. Feedback is more fun when there's a back and forth to help learn different points of view. Ultimately though, it's what the author is going to offer the audience.
    Thanks for cohosting.

  29. It's always good to get different opinions, although I can imagine having family members as critiquers could could lead to some bad feelings. Thanks for co-hosting this month!

  33. Daughters can be quite something. But it's lovely that you share your love of the craft of writing and have discussions. I can help with your relaunch if it helps. I'm based in India and books published in the US are often not available to us, unless they're on Kindle.
Thank you for co-hosting this month.

  34. So cool that your daughters can - kind of relate - when it comes to writing and reading. Well, when it comes to reading anyway. :-) At least they can provide you with feedback. None of my family could as their first language isn't English to begin with and none of them are into writing (especially in English). Thank you for co-hosting this month!

  35. Hello Cath! My betas are family too and we can often disagree! Congrats on the re-release. I have a lot of different options for getting in front of my audience. Would love for you to do an interview, maybe a character spotlight, and possibly more. I find that those authors who do multiple touches get the best experience with my audience. Here are the ways for you to get in front of my audience: https://heidiangell.com/angells-4-authors-author-support/
