@TheIWSG #IWSG #WritingCommunity #Writerslife #WriterSupport

Join Alex J. Cavanaugh and a multitude of writer's in this monthly hop to help support one another!

Purpose: To share and encourage. Writers can express doubts and concerns without fear of appearing foolish or weak. Those who have been through the fire can offer assistance and guidance. It’s a safe haven for insecure writers of all kinds!

The first Wednesday of every month is officially Insecure Writer’s Support Group day. Post your thoughts on your own blog. Talk about your doubts and the fears you have conquered. Discuss your struggles and triumphs. Offer a word of encouragement for others who are struggling. Visit others in the group and connect with your fellow writer - aim for a dozen new people each time - and return comments. This group is all about connecting!

Let’s rock the neurotic writing world!

Our Twitter handle is @TheIWSG and hashtag is #IWSG

Alex's awesome co-hosts are Pat Garcia, Victoria Marie Lees, and Louise – Fundy Blue!

July 7 question: What would make you quit writing?

I thought of quitting many times because of the long hours that sometimes don't accomplish much of anything. I am a turtle writer, which means it takes me forever to piecemeal that first draft.

My books are with an indie press and recently I decided to self-publish, which has great advantages, I have complete control over my books. Then comes the tiresome marketing. I learned writing is a business and it costs money. What is irritating, is putting my books on sale for 99cents, practically giving them away to get them noticed by readers. An author doesn't have to put their books on sale, but it sure helps to sell them, and hopefully rank on Amazon...thus getting them into the faces of readers...

If you are an inspiring author, write what you love, and not for the money!

With that said ~ I don't know if I will ever, actually quit. Writing is like a disease that gets into the blood. It might lay dormant for a while, but then one day it kicks into overdrive...

  1. I'm a turtle writer too. It makes me wonder if I'll ever be able to write enough to get published. Not sure if that will make me quit someday, but for now I'm enjoying the process.

  2. You bet it costs money! Editing, production, marketing. It digs into what little profit is to be had.

  3. Hi,
Writing is like a disease. It gets in your blood and stays there. A nice way of describing a reason that you can't quit.
Have a great month and take care.

  6. Marketing makes me yearn for the good old days when writers wrote and publishers marketed the books.

  8. I'm a turtle too. I'm the slowest of the bunch. But I'm happy with who I am.

    With regards to quitting...
If you enjoy writing can you really quit? I don’t think so. You may have phases, where you don’t write much; but eventually you will find your way back to the blank page.
And I'm talking about writing for the sheer pleasure of writing, and possibly publishing something along the way.
Then there's writing to pay the bills - that's a different story.
