December 2 question: Are there months or times of the year that you are more productive with your writing than other months, and why?
That's an easy question for me. I am more productive with my writing during the wintery months. Especially when the snow is falling and the wind is blowing. I'm nice and cozy inside watching the blustering flakes with a cup of hot tea, and it's when I find my writing inspiration.
Our summer months are short and I like to be outside. Puttering in my gardens, playing with grand-babies, and floating in the pool, which doesn't leave much time for writing or for creating new stories. While I do write in the summer, it's normally minimal.
When are you most productive with your writing?

Oh that's just the opposite of me. I find the sun and the blue sky most inspiring. Winter tends to weigh me down.

DeleteI have no idea what it's like to live in snow and sleet several months each year. Raised in southern California and now living near Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, I've only known sunny days with some rain for change of pace.
ReplyDeleteSo my creative time is early, before dawn. To encourage the words to flow, I have a delicious cup of coffee sitting beside my computer.

ReplyDeleteThanks for co-hosting this last month of the year, Cathrina, and for the holiday wishes. Mine to you and on into the New Year! Wintery months trend more toward snuggling up to read a book than writing though I do keep early AM hours year round.

I, too, am more productive in the cool/cold months. I just feel invigorated and clear-minded in the brisk temperatures. And snowy woods were so magickal for me as a child.

Lovely imagery that! I do more reading in the winter, and more writing once the mornings are lighter. It's taken me much thought and several blog visits to finally work that out!

Exactly the opposite of me, LOL! But it does make sense to stay inside, cozy and typing away, during the cold. If I could change my mindset to one of inspiration rather than distraction, that would probably help a lot. Thanks so much for co-hosting.

ReplyDeleteWintertime as you describe sounds very logical for writing. It was the same for me when I lived back East. Now, here in Los Angeles, we don't have the weather extremes that would drive us indoors. However, this year we have the lock downs and restrictions that should make staying indoors to write more conducive, but of course I don't do much. This year has made me lazier than ever before.

ReplyDeleteThat does sound super cozy! With me, writing happens when it happens. Since I homeschool my kids and we are always home, I have to fight for my time. haha!
