#IWSG #WritingCommunity @TheIWSG #covid19 #coronavirus

Join Alex J. Cavanaugh and a multitude of writer's in this monthly hop to help support one another!

Purpose: To share and encourage. Writers can express doubts and concerns without fear of appearing foolish or weak. Those who have been through the fire can offer assistance and guidance. It’s a safe haven for insecure writers of all

Let’s rock the neurotic writing world!

April 1 question - The IWSG’s focus is on our writers. Each month, from all over the globe, we are a united group sharing our insecurities, our troubles, and our pain. So, in this time when our world is in crisis with the covid-19 pandemic, our optional question this month is: how are things in your world?

My world consists of the interior of my home. When the weather cooperates here, in Buffalo, NY, we go for walks around the neighborhood. In the past week, I made a trip to the market, and that is all. I drove very slow to see the sights. LOL...What helps in my daily doldrums is my 18 month old grandson and my daughter who live with us. My heart grows bigger each day seeing that baby. We dance, laugh, giggle, and watch cartoons.

To stay informed, we watch the world news. And sometimes, I come away baffled because I hear differing things. But, last night, it was the first time I couldn't watch it. Hearing the death tolls around the world are heart wrenching. At times, I feel the sensationalizing of this pandemic creates havoc, tension, and hysteria. It might be beneficial to take a break from watching the news once in a while.

The only way I feel I can help, is by adding my daily prayers to those being said around the globe. I feel God is bringing His people to their knees. If you don't have a faith filled belief, then spread your love and light into the world.

At night, as I lay my head down on my pillow, I tend to worry and pray more. My son, which I've mentioned before, is an Emergency Room doctor in PA, who's been working in the covid-19 unit, and he has a 4 month old and a 3 year old at home. Needless to say, this is concerning and I'm scared for him and his family. I haven't seen them in months, and we'd planned on visiting them this past weekend...but the world is sick...At least we have Facetime and pictures...

  1. Agreed about taking breaks from the news. As important as it is to stay informed, it does take its toll. I have to purposely avoid the news sometimes so my anxiety doesn't get the best of me.

And, oh gosh, I can see why you would worry about your son. How stressful to be a doctor at a time like this! Hope you and your loved ones continue to be safe and well... <3

  2. That's awesome that your grandson and daughter live with you. And I can see why you are worried for your son. He is a hero on the front lines. Hope he and the rest of your family stay healthy.

  3. Praying for your family! I'm immunocompromised, so I'm trying to stay indoors as much as possible, though I'd like to take a walk today.

  4. Amen - that is all we can do. Keep our family safe and pray. I'll glance at the news twice a day but I know I can't do anything about the whole wide world.
    That dog is so right.

  5. The world has gone crazy. It's so sad. However, we can't allow ourselves to be consumed by social media, as there is loads of misinformation and fake news also doing the rounds.
    Stay safe!
    Happy IWSG Day.

  6. You sound well and like you are in command of the changes around us all. I'm so glad. I am a person of faith, and I do believe there is something going on within all of this - more than we can see. Just got to keep praying. Take care!

  7. Healthcare professionals are well trained and brave. Without them, all would be lost. Keep doing what you're doing, so he doesn't have to worry about you.

  8. Yes, we are all in prayer these days.
I'm so glad we have facetime and zoom. They really help.
Praying for you and your son. Healthcare professionals are truly on the front lines.

  10. I think taking a break from listening to the news is necessary sometimes. It's easier not to feel so overwhelmed when you're not constantly being bombarded by the horror of it. Prayers for your son and his family and thank you to him for his service. May you all stay well.

  11. I'm not religious, but I hope that if nothing else this disaster helps open people's eyes to the need to treat one another better. I'm not holding my breath though. May you stay well.

  12. I've completely lost respect for news coverage. They pander to panic, chaos, and misinformation, apparently in hopes of ratings. We're sheltering in place, keeping touch through a text circle in the neighborhood, and watching out for each other. My daughter and sister are nurses on the front line, so I worry for them, as so many seem oblivious to the need to practice caution.

  13. Hi,
As an ExPat living in Germany, I can say we hear different reports about the USA and Canada also. Here it is bad. We are quarantined and it looks like the quarantine will go until the first week of May but no one has said that yet. Italy and Spain have been hit the worse.
I am a faith filled believer. I pray a lot but that doesn't mean I don't follow the governing rules of the nation I am living in. I know this will pass and keep calm with my trust being in God.
    Take care and be safe.

  14. I downloaded an app called New Break for info and watch CBSN. Of course, I fact check everything I see on FB. When the news is too much, I watch something cute and funny and avoid FB. I've also been sitting on my porch every day during sunset to write in my journal.

    Stay safe!

  15. You are so fortunate to have your grandchild with you. I miss mine so much. FaceTime is great but not enough. Your son is a real hero. I hope this will end soon and we'll all be okay. Stay safe.
