#IWSG

Join Alex J. Cavanaugh and a multitude of writer's in this monthly hop to help support one another!

Purpose: To share and encourage. Writers can express doubts and concerns without fear of appearing foolish or weak. Those who have been through the fire can offer assistance and guidance. It’s a safe haven for insecure writers of all kinds!

Alex's awesome co-hosts are Olga Godim, Chemist Ken, Renee Scattergood, and Tamara Narayan!

April 4th question: When your writing life is a bit cloudy or filled with rain, what do you do to dig down and keep writing?

I like to take walks, either outside of on the treadmill to clear my head. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. And believe it or not, I like to clean, like washing my floor, dusting rooms, doing laundry. It's the mundane things that relax my brain so that, hopefully, it will regenerate and allow a story to enfold.

I have another book being released within the week. And my insecurities are rising like water in a stream where the banks are sure to overflow.... I'm striving to keep my head above the water.

How are you handling your insecurities this month?

  1. I like your ways of getting through the hard writing times. Sometimes I figure out problems when walking, cleaning, or taking a shower. I'd be glad to shout out about your book in Follower News. E-mail me if you're interested.

  2. Mundane activities for the win! I rarely clean voluntarily, but it sure does allow space for the mind to wander.

Within the week! Best of luck with the release - and with keeping your sanity throughout.

  4. The mundane things in life are so overrated! Because we don't have to focus too much on them, it frees our brains up to work on creative projects and problem solving or whatever. ^_^

    I love those quotes!

  6. Wait, within the week? Whew! I'm wishing you an abundance of cheese and the energy of five people. Book releases are always such a rush...and so exhausting at the same time. You're going to rock it!

  8. CONGRATS on your new story! I'm sure it will be AMAZING! Exercise used to do wonders for me too, but sadly there has been little of that and writing lately. BUT, now that Spring is here, I have a new outlook and I may have found my energy. I am FINALLY writing a new book, my first in over three years..... So EXCITED about it!

  10. Long walks outside are good for my muse. Trouble is, they're not much fun during the months of November through April here in Michigan. Treadmills don't do it for me. :)

  11. Walking and cleaning work for me too. Cleaning physically seems to help clean out my head. :) Good luck with your new release!

  12. I need to clean, or actually organize, the basement. However, the last time I was down there, my daughter accompanied me and I knew I didn't dare put anything in the "get rid of" pile with her around. My children (and husband) are pure pack rats.

    Congrats on the new release!
